RKS 2024 Wine: Vineland Estates 2021 Pinot Meunier
Aroma: Lighthearted bright red cherry. Reminiscent of Cherry Jell-O with some raspberry, strawberry and a bit of mocha. Discrete oak notes. Palate: A lightweight wine with some surprising but evenly spread tannins that fade quickly. Gentle acidity so yes with the minimal acidity and moderate tannins the wine can cut through lean red meats nicelyContinue reading “RKS 2024 Wine: Vineland Estates 2021 Pinot Meunier”
RKS 2024 Wine: Four Vines Old Vine Zinfandel: Of Water and Wine
President Elect Donald Trump may have dazzled his MAGA base with tough guy protectionism promising a 25% tariff on all Canadian products entering the United States. Seems of late he has admitted this may lead to an increased cost of living for Americans. Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau quickly scampered down to Mar-a-Lago to persuadeContinue reading “RKS 2024 Wine: Four Vines Old Vine Zinfandel: Of Water and Wine”
RKS 2024 Wine: Croatian Plavac Mali
At one time it was thought Plavac Mali was Zinfandel but at best Plavac Mali and Zinfandel may have shared some ancestral grape heritage. It is my go-to red in Croatia and has its most extensive planting on Croatia’s stunning Dalmatian coast. Two or three times a year Torontonians see some Plavic Mali on ourContinue reading “RKS 2024 Wine: Croatian Plavac Mali”
RKS 2024 Wine: Chasing Rain Cabernet Sauvignon from Washington’s Red Mountain
With today’s climate change one can be hoping to chase the rain either towards or away from you! Which way is the chase going for Chasing Rain Cabernet Sauvignon? The Red Mountain AVA receives approximately 5 inches of rain annually. The winery’s website states, “Minimal rainfall, a dry climate and fast draining soil force moreContinue reading “RKS 2024 Wine: Chasing Rain Cabernet Sauvignon from Washington’s Red Mountain”
RKS 2024 Wine: Agiorgitiko Greek Supermarket Champion
When travelling in Europe I usually visit supermarkets for various items particularly bottled water. Supermarket prices for cheese in Paris would reduce you to tears with just how inexpensive French cheese can be. Almost like a staple whereas here in Canada it is a luxury. I always look at wine prices too and in PortugalContinue reading “RKS 2024 Wine: Agiorgitiko Greek Supermarket Champion”
RKS 2024 Wine: L’Étoile a Miniscule Appellation in France’s Jura
A mere 75 acres are in the L’Étoile appellation. We try a Chardonnay from L’Étoile from La Maison du Vigneron. Aroma: Baked apple, pear, butterscotch, apricot and honey. Notes of tiring oak that has outstayed it welcome. Palate: Makes a statement of being a unique Chardonnay. Discrete acidity. Burly yet retaining some creaminess. Full bodiedContinue reading “RKS 2024 Wine: L’Étoile a Miniscule Appellation in France’s Jura”
RKS 2024 Wine: Kings Ridge 2022 Pinot Noir from Willamette Valley
Aroma: Raspberry, strawberry jam and blackberry somewhat on the dense side of a Pinot Noir. Palate: Broad based tannins. While dense and fruit infused on the nose thinness is present on the palate which I do not think should be equated by a particular style of Pinot Noir and should not be mistaken for elegance.Continue reading “RKS 2024 Wine: Kings Ridge 2022 Pinot Noir from Willamette Valley”
Penniless Pensioner Wines: The Under $15 Man Tries Morgado Silgueiros from Portugal’s Dão
Well in rapid succession the Penniless Pensioner has snagged a $12.95 wine from Portugal’s Dão’s region. His last wine we snuffled about was also from the Dão so he concludes this region cherishes penniless pensioners. The wine has seen no oak and is a blend of Touriga Nacional, Jaen, Tinta Roriz and Alfrochiero. One readerContinue reading “Penniless Pensioner Wines: The Under $15 Man Tries Morgado Silgueiros from Portugal’s Dão”
