Statistics from each country’s border authority made Grump’s statement a pie faced lie but it enabled him to declare an emergency and levy punishing tariffs on Canadian aluminum, steel, autos and lumber such tariffs being paid for by American consumers. There was little power vested in Canada to strike back tit for tat.
There was nothing more Grump would prefer than the smashing of the Canadian economy; to bring it on its knees.
