“Travels to a Different Time” : 30July2000: Samos, Greece A Beach from a Different Era

The manager of the hotel related a story to me how years ago, many years ago, they swam at a beach called Mauones which is at the far end of Vathi. Being curious about the beach of yesteryear headed down the road. But there was no beach but a break wall with rusted pieces ofContinue reading ““Travels to a Different Time” : 30July2000: Samos, Greece A Beach from a Different Era”

“Travels to a Different Time”: 28July2000: Samos, Greece; Pythagorian: Charming Seaside Town

Took the municipal bus from Vathi to Pythagorian. The bus service is decent but many tourists seem intimidated by public transportation and ride by taxi. I have no complaints. Buses are clean and air conditioned. The drivers are helpful. The schedule is well laid out and the buses are on time. A breakfast of oranges,Continue reading ““Travels to a Different Time”: 28July2000: Samos, Greece; Pythagorian: Charming Seaside Town”

“Travels to a Different Time ” : 27July2000: Samos, Greece: To Kedros Beach and a Catchy Supermarket Jingle

Picked up some liquids and breakfast of cheese, olives, bread and grapes. The supermarket is not that large. They have a catchy jingle playing with the store’s name in it. “Galanos, Galanos” it goes. I am puzzled that the chickens are frozen and are from Denmark. Off to Kedros Beach on the bus. A shortContinue reading ““Travels to a Different Time ” : 27July2000: Samos, Greece: To Kedros Beach and a Catchy Supermarket Jingle”

Up up and away on an ageing Air Canada 747. Rather cheap French wine to start and the usual Air Canada shenanigans with chicken or pasta but we are out of the chicken. Cannelloni was undercooked pig slop. Nodded off and up at 4 a.m. to daylight. Breakfast, if you can call it that, wasContinue reading ““Travels to a Different Time” : 24July2000: Toronto, London and Athens: Welcome to Olympic Airline’s Lost Luggage Motel! Boarded an Air Canada flight to London at Toronto’s Pearson Airport to make a connecting flight to Athens. There were also a large group of children withContinue reading ““Travels to a Different Time ” : 23July2000: Good Old Air Canada: Off to Athens”

“Travels to a Different Time: 19March2000: New York City: Screwed Over by the Bank, Mozart and Patsy’s

Continental breakfast of bagels, crumpets, juice and tasteless New York City coffee. The ATM machine advised me I had no funds available to make a cash withdrawal.
