Poetry Corner: “That strange North American University tradition of Homecoming”

That strange North American university tradition of homecoming

Guess who’s in town
football savages
the big college football game
goon jocks with a war cry
pilsner fog
purple face painted engineers
initiation rites
into what?
last binge or only the beginning
and the roar after the big play

plump bottomed girls like caramel sundaes
for their boys
and we all know the topping I am writing about
But everything is so decent back home when the turkey is carved
