2026 GREEK TRAVEL ADVENTURE: Short Attention Span Version: 20September2026: Delphi/Meteora: Against All Warnings We Travel Into the Eye of the Storm and Are Rewarded with Incredible Argentinian Beef

Months prior we had booked the Ananti City Resort in Trikala which is a 35-minute drive from Meteora. We, along with T and I, had received a post booking notice, sort of sounding like a warning, that there was to be a boisterous wedding celebration at the hotel on the night of our arrival and the hotel could arrange a booking at a nearby hotel suggesting the celebratory noises would be very loud and carry on into the morning. We decided to remain booked with Ananti City Resort.

View of Trikala from front of the hotel

Ananti City Resort is one of those modernistic clean lined and functional hotels. It is located on top of a hill and for the past few days we have been more used to mountains. Our rooms have a tremendous view of Trikala in the distance. Trikala is built on the site of ancient Trikka the legendary birthplace of Asclepius the god of medicine. There are farms immediately below the hotel so you might say it is an isolated location. I think all of us are dog tired after the drive, the off-road adventure and all the walking.

After a blessed shower we headed off to the hotel’s impressive rooftop bar restaurant Terroir. The location of our table was quiet with our table having a view of the twinkling lights of Trikala some 4 kms in the distance. Someone said to us it was a baptism not a wedding.

As you enter the restaurant, you will be greeted by a spacious and elegant space with a minimalist decorative character and glass windows that embrace the area, offering an unobstructed view of the city of Trikala and allowing the view to stand out and impress. Natural light floods the space during the day, while at night, the restaurant transforms into a romantic destination with the lights shining and the city decorated by the stars.

We all enjoyed a perfectly grilled tenderloin. If this is representative of Argentinian beef give me more. The roast potatoes were the usual exceptional ones you enjoy almost everywhere in Greece.

We had a bottle of Organic Theopetra 2024 Red from Meteora a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah. A decent wine but at 70 Euros unimpressive. Our tenderloin was 44 Euros and given its exceptional quality a more than fair price.

Off to the rooms through the underground garage and a poorly lit service hallway. Bizarre journey indeed. Apparently there are renovations occurring so that explained the strange “detour”.
