RKS French Wine: A Cour-Cheverny from the Loire

This is a first for me a Cour-Cheverny from the Loire in France. The area has a long winemaking history. Its wine is made with the white Romorantin grape which only produces white wines, dry or sweet, obtained after long fermentations.

Cour-Cheverny received appellation status in 1993.

The first Romorantin vineyards date back to the 19th century. It is a hardy grape variety adapted to the harsh natural environment and the poor soils of the region.

The areas under cultivation are influenced by a maritime climate and is planted on terraces and hillsides in clearings, between woods and forests on soils composed of clay and limestone providing the grapes with a protected microclimate protected from cold winds.
